Florida Power & Light Rate Case and the Kentucky Derby Party

A controversy has arisen regarding a Florida Public Service Commission employee’s attendance at a Kentucky Derby party at the residence of a Florida Power & Light executive, according to this report.

Ryder Rudd, the commission’s lobbyist and governmental affairs director, and his wife attended the party in May at the home of FPL Vice President and General Counsel Ed Tancer in the San Michele gated community. At the same time, Rudd was involved in two FPL-related cases pending before the commission, worth a total of more than $4 billion.
