ABA panel on lobbying and campaign finance law

As I first noted here, on Friday the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section Fall Meeting held a panel discussion today, “New Developments in Lobbying Laws and Campaign Finance.”  The panel included Stateside Associates’ Mark Anderson, Wiley Rein’s Jan Baran, Foley & Lardner’s Cleta Mitchell, and The Capital Hill Group’s Steven Dover.  Mr. Baran discussed a matter of interest to those following Citizens United:  the history of restrictions on corporate and union spending and potential Supreme Court approaches to the case.  Ms. Mitchell discussed three important honest services fraud/Section 1346 cases before the Court this term, Black, Weyhrauch, and Skilling.  Oral argument in the first two of the cases is set for December 8, 2009.  Mr. Dover discussed the latest developments in Canadian lobbying law.
