Republicans seek investigation into Baucus/Melodee Hanes issue

Following revelations about Sen. Baucus’ appointment of Melodee Hanes to be U.S. attorney for Montana, Republicans have called for an ethics committee investigation.

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele called for an official investigation into Baucus, who allegedly flagged Justice Department lawyer Melodee Hanes for a U.S. attorney nomination while engaging in a romantic relationship with her. Hanes eventually withdrew her name from consideration.

According to MainJustice.com, Ms. Hanes is currently a Department of Justice political appointee.

Hanes in June became acting Deputy Administrator for Policy in the Justice Department’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, an arm of the DOJ that supports research, training and programs for juvenile justice programs throughout the country.
