Ethics and the Robert Sledd nomination

In Virginia, Gov.-Elect McDonnell nominated Robert Sledd to a spot as secretary of commerce and trade, but he’s facing criticism because of his apparent decision to remain on corporate boards.

McDonnell said this week that he is confident Sledd will be confirmed, but he did not rule out asking him to step down from the boards or disclose more information about his relationships with the firms.

“We’re going to find a way to work through this,” McDonnell said. “Once the legislators get to know the heart of this man and get to know his incredible talent in growing jobs, they’ll be very comfortable with him.”
