The Star Tribune reports that Target President and CEO Gregg Steinhafel told employees that he was “genuinely sorry” that Target’s donation to Minnesota Forward upset some.
Steinhafel also said Target would set up a review process for future political donations after the company’s first one created a growing political firestorm.
“While I firmly believe that a business climate conducive to growth is critical to our future, I realize our decision affected many of you in a way I did not anticipate, and for that I am genuinely sorry,” Steinhafel wrote.
Target gave $150,000 to MN Forward, a group that is running ads for Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer, who opposes gay marriage.
