ROGERS’ NONPROFITS IN THE NEWS. Politico reports. “Rep. Hal Rogers (R-Ky.), the new chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, has funneled more than $236 million in federal funds since 2000 to a web of nonprofit groups he created back home in the Bluegrass State, according to a new report by an ethics watchdog group.”
GUILTY PLEA IN ALABAMA CASE. The DOJ press release is here. “An Alabama businessman pleaded guilty today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Wallace Capel Jr. to his role in conspiring to bribe legislators in exchange for their favorable votes on pro-gambling legislation, announced Assistant Attorney General Lanny A. Breuer of the Criminal Division and Special Agent in Charge Lewis M. Chapman of the FBI’s Mobile Field Office.”
ETHANOL GROUP PAYMENT IN THE NEWS. Politico reports. “IRS filings show that Growth Energy, a coalition of ethanol producers, paid Gingrich’s consulting firm $312,500 – one of the group’s largest single expenditures that year.”
SUPER PAC ATTACK? From Houston. “A new Democratic ‘Super PAC,’ which allows massive expenditures from undisclosed donors, targeted Rep. Blake Farenthold, R-Corpus Christi. But Democrats took aim at San Antonio Rep. Francisco Canseco (and 24 other congressional Republicans) the old fashioned way: through their formal campaign committee.”
CORPORATE POLITICAL ACTIVITY DISCLOSURE. The LA Times reports. “Despite mounting calls for greater transparency, only a few of the country’s 75 leading energy, healthcare and financial services corporations fully disclose political spending, according to a review of company records and state and federal campaign finance reports.”
SOLITICING LOBBYISTS IN VERMONT. In the news. “At least two recent email letters from Gov. Peter Shumlin’s re-election campaign appear to violate Vermont campaign finance law, Vermont Republican Party Chairwoman Pat McDonald pointed out Monday in a letter to the governor.”
