Former Rep. Wright’s Trial

Former Rep. Wright’s trial continues,” reports News14 Carolina.

The prosecution has nearly wrapped up its case in the fraud trial of former state Rep. Thomas Wright. Thursday, Wright’s defense attorney is expected to start presenting his case. The former lawmaker is expected to take the stand in his own defense.

Prosecutors called witnesses from AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, Anheuser-Busch, and AT&T to prove those corporations gave in total $8,900 to Wright’s non-profit health foundation — Community’s Health Foundation — in Wilmington.

“If you had known that Representative Wright was going to put this money in his own account, would you have requested this money go to Community Health Foundation,” Assistant District Attorney David Sherlin asked Brian Shank, a former registered lobbyist for AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals.

“No,” Shank answered.

I previously commented on the charges against Rep. Wright.
