The Obama administration’s commitment to transparency has been questioned after the administration apparently took steps to change rules that used to require unions to report financial and other information, according to this report. The article notes that White House Political Director Patrick Gaspard is a “likely ally” of organized labor, having served at the Service Employees International Union. I previously noted Mr. Gaspard’s recently-filed financial disclosure report here and some overlapping dates. According to the report, he “served as officer responsible for organizing legislative program” of SEIU Local 1199. Prior to that, in 2007, 1199 Service Employees International Union Federal Political Action Fund named “Patrick Gaspard” as its treasurer, and an individual by that name apparently electronically signed all of the committee’s reports through the 2008 Post-General Report.
