Obama’s Text Message

Obama’s text message announcing he has chosen Joe Biden as his running mate, lacking a disclaimer indicating who paid for it, reads:

From: 622-62

Barack has chosen Senator Joe Biden to be our VP nominee.  Watch the first Obama-Biden rally live at 3pm ET on www.BarackObama.com. Spread the word!

August 23, 3:29 AM

So why doesn’t it need a disclaimer (and a disclaimer in a box, for that matter)?  Because of this?

Biden on Public Financing

Sen. Joe Biden called Barack Obama’s decision not to accept public financing potentially risky, according to this report.

“So in terms of the downside of his not accepting, in terms of influence of big money, there is no influence of big money in his campaign,” he said of Obama’s electoral move. “In terms of undermining the public financing idea for everyone, it doesn’t help.”

Biden applied for matching funds during the primaries, according to this report.

Biden appeared on Meet the Press in June 2008:

Look, I’ve been a strong supporter of public financing my, my whole career.  I’m the first guy to introduce a public financing bill to the United States Senate in 1973.  And the purpose was to get big money out of the politics.
