Valentine’s Day political law news, what could be more romantic?

PRISON FOR SCANLON.  Michael Scanlon was sentenced Friday.  Roll Call. The Times. The DOJ release is here.  “To date, 20 individuals, including lobbyists and public officials, have pleaded guilty or been convicted at trial in connection with the activities of Abramoff and his associates.   Abramoff pleaded guilty in January 2006 to conspiracy to commit honest services fraud, honest services fraud and tax evasion.   He was sentenced in September 2008 to 48 months in prison.”

ETHICS IN THE HOUSE. Roll Call reports:  “Speaker John Boehner seems intent on avoiding a repeat of history when it comes House Republicans and ethics.”

CANDIDATE PAID A SALARY. The Boston Globe reports. “Sean Bielat, whose spirited challenge to US Representative Barney Frank last year drew national attention, paid himself $10,000 in salary drawn from his campaign account, but waited to disclose the move until after the November election.”

TREASURER THEFT. Is in the news in Maryland.  “The campaign treasurer for Sen. Ulysses S. Currie has pleaded guilty to the theft of more than $100,000 of campaign funds.”

DISCLOSING ALL LOBBYIST CONVERSATIONS WITH LAWMAKERS. In the news in Illinois.  “Secretary of State Jesse White’s office will send a notice this week to lobbyists that they do not, in fact, have to disclose every conversation they have with state officials.”
