A trial for Rep. Waters too

Politico has the latest on the Ehtics Committee’s proceedings regarding Rep. Maxine Waters here.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) has chosen to go through an ethics trial, like the one lined up for New York Rep. Charles Rangel, rather than accepting charges made by an ethics subcommittee, a source familiar with the process tells POLITICO.

As to the committee’s allegations with respect to Rep. Rangel, the news tonight is that the panel recommends a reprimand.

The recommendation appears to be carrying significant weight with the full 10-member House ethics committee, which will decide Mr. Rangel’s fate. On Friday, the full committee spent hours behind closed doors debating whether to agree to a settlement that would require the congressman to admit to wrongdoing in exchange for receiving a reprimand and avoiding a public trial on his conduct.
