March 31 Special in NY-20

Lawyers who have worked for a campaign or PAC or party know the story line well.  Someone offended by one of your client’s ads gets their lawyer to ask a station airing the ad to take it down, for some reason or another.  The station manager gets involved, and before you know it the dispute is in the public eye – or more often the offended party issued a press release for a quick hit when they contacted the station.

Such a dispute has arisen in New York’s 20th Congressional District, where Scott Murphy is facing Jim Tedisco in the March 31 election.  This time, The Albany Times-Union reporter Irene Jane Liu recorded a call with the PAC’s representative and put the recording online.
