Boasso Denies

Louisiana Democratic candidate for governor Walter Boasso denies campaign finance charges.

The Louisiana Board of Ethics has alleged that Boasso and his campaign may have violated the law because they failed to itemize more than $1 million in expenditures. The payments were made to a Philadelphia advertising firm. The campaign listed the spending as “media buys.”

Matzzie of Accountable America Responds

Tom Matzzie, the “political campaigner” behind Accountable America, released a public statement (available on the election law mailing list, which I normally wouldn’t cite directly but the statement is styled as a public press release).

I am not saying that ordinary donors are or should be liable themselves – it’s the groups that unlawfully adopt the wrong legal status that could put them at risk or be compelled to disclose what they assured their donors would be private. (And no, Accountable America did not use any report or information filed with the FEC in creating its own mailing list.)
