NY:  FIRM SETTLES.  Story here.  “New York’s ethics board is settling a case for $20,000 with a major public relations and lobbying firm that first reported its problems to the board.”

NYC:  RUNOFF CASH?  Story here.  “The second-place finisher in the Democratic mayoral primary is decidedly not OK with the CFB’s decision to hang on to funds raised for a potential runoff on the grounds that unofficial results show frontrunner Bill de Blasio over the 40% hurdle and so a two-person faceoff is no longer ‘reasonably anticipated.'”

EMAIL ISSUE. BLT. “Dickstein Shapiro was the unexpected target of ire today by Republican and Democrat members of the House Committee on Government Reform, who assailed the firm for conduct that ‘crosses the line.'”

CLINTON CONNECTION. The Post. “The D.C. businessman at the center of an ongoing city corruption investigation secretly spent more than a half-million dollars on get-out-the-vote efforts for Hillary Rodham Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign, according to interviews and court documents filed Wednesday.”

KOCH UPDATE. Politico. “Freedom Partners is organized under the same section of the tax code as a trade association, a 501(c)6, allowing the group to conceal its donors from public release, although the amounts and recipients of its major grants are public.”

HOUSE ETHICS UPDATE. Roll Call. “The House Ethics Committee announced Wednesday it would continue to review possible ethics violations by Reps. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., Peter Roskam, R-Ill., and Timothy H. Bishop, D-N.Y., but will not launch full-scale investigations.” Politico has more.

CA: HIRING A LOBBYIST. Story here. “Interim Mayor Todd Gloria is expected Thursday to announce that the city of San Diego is making plans to rehire Sacramento and Washington lobbying firms that had been fired by Bob Filner at the start of the year.”

KY: LARGE FINE. Story here. “The Executive Branch Ethics Commission has reached the largest settlement in its history with former Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer, but details of the deal will not be available until Farmer pleads guilty Friday to two felonies in federal court.”

OH: CONTRIBUTIONS ISSUE. Story here. “While state law allows a governor or lawmakers to receive campaign contributions from an appointee, a Cuyahoga County ordinance prohibits the same practice for the county executive or county council members.”
