Late Breaking News on the Hsu Case

The AP is reporting:

Top Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu, once a prized supporter of Hillary Rodham Clinton, is talking with the government to try to settle charges that he cheated investors out of millions of dollars and made illegal donations to politicians, his lawyer told a judge.

In a letter dated Tuesday, attorney Hugh M. Mundy said he was requesting a 30-day adjournment of a court hearing scheduled for Friday because “the parties have begun settlement negotiations” and the government is turning over evidence for him to review.

Mundy said Hsu did not object to a delay in court proceedings while settlement talks continue. He did not immediately return a telephone message seeking comment Wednesday.

...

Hsu raised more than $1.2 million for Clinton, D-N.Y., and other Democratic candidates in recent years. Clinton’s campaign has since returned more than $800,000 to donors whose contributions were linked to him.

Hsu awaits trial in a federal lockup in Manhattan.

If convicted of six counts of mail fraud, six counts of wire fraud and three counts of violating the Federal Election Campaign Act, Hsu could face more than 200 years in prison.
