AZ: SCA Fined

The Sheriff’s Command Association (SCA) was apparently fined yesterday for campaign finance violations (see my prior Arizona posts for the background).

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office has ordered a county sheriff’s captain to pay more than $300,000 in penalties for illegally donating money to the Arizona Republican Party and refusing to disclose his donors.

Maricopa County Sheriff Capt. Joel Fox is on the hook for the civil penalties because he is the only known member of SCA, a group that gave the GOP $105,000 earlier this year. SCA, which stands for Sheriff’s Command Association, became a political committee as soon as it gave money to a political committee, independent counsel Jeffrey Messing concluded in the compliance order.
