IA: To Hire or Not to Hire

The Ottumwa City Council is studying hiring a lobbyist to help with a casino license, according to this Ottumwa Courier report.

Council members voted unanimously this week to table the decision on joining Webster, Tama, Lyons and Franklin counties in hiring lobbyist Bill Wimmer, who will help them pursue a casino license from the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.

Members said they wanted more information before deciding.

Wapello County Supervisor Steve Siegel sent a letter to Councilman Keith Caviness on Nov. 24 and asked him if the council is “willing to split the $1,000 cost of lobbying” with the supervisors.
