Did you know a former governor is on trial right now?  It’s former Governor of Puerto Rico Anibal Acevedo Vila and he’s facing charges related to campaign finance.  How’s the case going? 

“Until now, the government has not presented sufficient evidence that he knew about the scheme,” [Judge] Barbadoro said in the absence of jurors.

There was no immediate reaction from prosecutors. Another 10 witnesses remain to be called.

Defense attorney Bradford Berenson raised concerns Wednesday that the testimony of prosecution witnesses might lead jurors to think Acevedo also is accused of bribery.

Barbadoro responded that he would instruct the jury that there was nothing illegal about Acevedo calling government employees and asking them to meet with business owners who made donations to his campaign.
