The Times on the Trouble with Twitter

The Times examines the novelty of Twitter and has some evidence-based conclusions about the service.

Hitwise, an Internet traffic monitor, reported that Ms. [Oprah] Winfrey’s first tweet and show about Twitter, on April 17, increased Twitter’s share of United States Internet users by 24 percent over the previous day and 43 percent over the previous Friday.

However, a report from Nielsen Online suggests that most users are tempted by Twitter’s novelty, then lose interest.
