LD-203 Penalties for Lobbyists

CQ Moneyline notes recent guidance on LD-203 filings and the potential penalties.

Lobbyists who failed to comply with the new rules could face stiff penalties. Both the House Clerk and Secretary of the Senate have sent letters to lobbyists who have not turned in their reports on time. From the time the letters are received, the lobbyists have 60 days to comply or the case is referred to the Justice Department for possible prosecution. Noncompliance with the new law carries fines of up to $200,000 or five years in prison.
